Seroprevalence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in Geneva, Switzerland
About 1 in 10 people in Geneva, Switzerland, have antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, researchers report in The Lancet. Nearly 2800 people underwent antibody testing between early April and early May. Using these results, the researchers estimated that the general population’s seroprevalence was 4.8% during the first week of testing, rising to 10.8% during the fifth week. Children aged 5-9 years and adults aged 65 and older were less likely to test positive. Additionally, the researchers estimated that for every confirmed case that was reported, there were 11.6 infections in the community. They write, “Assuming that the presence of IgG antibodies is associated with immunity, these results highlight that the epidemic is far from coming to an end by means of fewer susceptible people in the population.”
