COVID-19 Prophylactic Intranasal spray in ferrets:

An intranasal spray with an engineered peptide successfully prevented ferrets from being infected with SARS-CoV-2, according to a study in Science. Researchers developed a lipopeptide to prevent the coronavirus from attaching to the host. Twelve ferrets were given the intranasal spray or a mock preparation daily for 2 days and then cohoused for 24 hours with ferrets that were positive for the virus. All of the untreated ferrets became infected, but none of the treated ferrets did. The authors say that such a SARS-CoV-2-specific lipopeptide could potentially serve as pre-exposure and early post-exposure prophylaxis to limit SARS-CoV-2 transmission in humans.
