Readmissions & deaths after discharge from COVID-19
JAMA
The first 10 days after COVID-19 discharge appear to be a particularly risky period, according to a JAMA research letter. Researchers studied nearly 1800 COVID-19 patients who were discharged from Veterans Affairs hospitals. Within 60 days, 27% were readmitted or died. COVID-19 survivors had higher rates of 10-day readmission or death than similar patients with pneumonia (13% vs. 10%) and heart failure (14% vs. 9%), “suggesting a period of heightened risk of clinical deterioration,” the authors write.
